WAWA, Pa. -- Wawa Inc. plans to open 30 new convenience stores in northern New Jersey. According to a report by the Bergen Record, developer Dennis Cieri, co-founder of Eden Property Co., laid out Wawa's aggressive plans during the Marcus & Millichap New Jersey Investor Symposium.
"We're working with Wawa and their expansion to push into northern New Jersey," Cieri reportedly said during the symposium."They want to open 30 units just in the top five counties. We're their designated developer, and they're really excited about it."
Although Wawa currently has 602 stores in six states including the Garden State, none are located in northern New Jersey. Assuming the report is accurate, several of the new stores would be in Bergen and Passaic Counties, close to New York State.
Cieri did not comment on a possible timetable for when the new Wawa stores could be completed. However, he did note that retailers love to operate in northern New Jersey due to its dense population and high income levels.
Officials at Wawa couldn't be reached when contacted by the Record for comment.
