Shell Promotion Gives Free Gas

HOUSTON -- Shell customers Stephen Verbanets of Pittsburgh and Rita Abbott of Kansas City, Mo., each won $10,000 in free Shell gasoline following a July station promotion, the company reported.

Local finalists were selected at random and invited to gather at a local Shell Station to see who would be the grand prize winner. Each finalist drew a Shell gas card and then inserted it into the credit-card reader in hopes it would activate the gas pump.

"This is really exciting. I can't believe it," said Verbanets. "I have to go pick up my son at NYU, so that will be a good way to use the gas."

The other $10,000 Gas Giveaway finalists in attendance each walked away with a Shell-brand gift card worth $500.

The sweepstakes was held to celebrate the introduction of the Shell brand to approximately 25 stations in the Pittsburgh area and the brand conversion of 85 stations in the Kansas City area. This brand conversion from the Texaco to the Shell Brand is part of the largest re-branding initiative in American-business history. The nationwide conversion process, which was completed in 2004, began in Oklahoma City in May 2002. Each of the new Shell branded stations is locally owned and operated.
