NEW YORK -- To ring in the new year, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co.'s Camel brand will market Midnight Madness, a cigarette style that combines Camel's signature Turkish and domestic tobacco blend with the flavor of New Year's spirits, and will be available nationwide from Dec. 7 through Dec. 31, according to the company.
"Midnight Madness is designed to accelerate awareness of Camel's Exotic Blend family of cigarette styles among adult smokers, and continue to build on the core equity of Camel ? a fun and irreverent brand that offers adult smokers a flavorful and indulgent smoking experience," said Scott Rhodes, vice president of marketing for Camel.
Midnight Madness is the fourth in a line of limited-edition Exotic Blends marketed by Camel. According to Rhodes, these limited-edition styles have been popular among adult smokers and are helping Camel continue its growth trend. Midnight Madness cigarettes will be packaged in blue tins featuring streamers, sparklers and party favors, along with the tagline "Uncork the Excitement." Each pack will contain an insert describing the flavor of the blend, the heritage of Camel and what makes this unique style so pleasurable to smoke.
"To remain competitive in an intensely competitive environment it is vital for Reynolds Tobacco's brands, like Camel, to differentiate themselves from competitors," said Rhodes. "Limited-edition and regular Exotic Blend styles help Camel stand out in a crowded marketplace by offering products that have never before been available in the category."
Camel Exotic Blends were first introduced in October 1999 with five styles, including Basma, Samsun, Rare, Crema and Twist. Currently, Camel markets more than 11 Exotic Blend styles.
