Honorable mention: Kings Cross Bay Sunoco, Ozone Park, N.Y.
When planning the Kings Cross Bay Sunoco store, Bolla Management sought to honor its contract with Sunoco APlus, while incorporating its own convenience store concept of Bolla Market.
The retailer’s construction team converted the site’s former 4,000-square-foot repair shop, as the existing c-store and fueling station maintained normal operations. The end result is a store that boasts marble bathrooms, mahogany gondolas, valance moldings, imported floor tile, LED lighting and more.
Foodservice offerings include a full Bolla Gourmet deli with LED menu screens; espresso bar; Coca-Cola Freestyle fountain unit; and f’real milkshakes. The high-end gourmet deli serves a New York-style breakfast, as well as a gourmet lunch buffet that includes entrees like tilapia, chicken Marsala, pasta and meatloaf and sides like rice, vegetables and potatoes.
This Ozone Park, N.Y., location now serves as Bolla’s flagship store. The business maintained its cash flow potential during the length of its remodel. Before, the site was doing 12,000 gallons per day in fuel and $4,000 per day in the c-store. After, it is doing 18,000 gallons per day in fuel and $6,000 in the c-store, including $1,000-plus in the deli, according to the retailer.
