Gulf & Discover Partner to Promote Mobile Payment

WELLESLEY HILLS, Mass. — Gulf Oil and Discover Financial Services are launching a summer savings campaign that is designed to reward consumers for downloading the new Gulf Pay app and linking their Discover card as the preferred payment method.

Consumers who download the app and link a Discover card will automatically save 15 cents per gallon of gasoline (up to 20 gallons per visit for a total of 81 visits) when utilizing their Discover card for payment at participating gas stations throughout New England and New York.

The campaign provides users with exclusive savings from July 13 through October 15.

"By teaming up with Discover this summer, we can provide increased security and exclusive savings to an already loyal and growing group of existing cardholders with Gulf Pay," said Marg McDonnell, senior director, credit card operations, Gulf Oil. "This campaign allows us to incentivize more motorists to choose Gulf and Discover and ultimately drives more traffic into our stations."

Both Gulf and Discover will support the program with advertising that includes promotional materials at participating stations, digital and radio advertisements in the New England market, and targeted email and social messaging.

"Discover is always looking for new and innovative ways to give our cardmembers the best possible experience," said Andrew Hopkins, vice president of portfolio marketing at Discover. "We want to encourage new and existing Discover cardmembers to add their Discover card to Gulf Pay and take advantage of this generous offer."

The Gulf Pay app launched in the Apple App Store and Google Play in June and is currently accepted at participating Gulf retail fuel locations throughout select New England and New York markets.

Gulf Oil is a refined products terminaling, storage and logistics business, as well as a distributor of motor fuels throughout the United States. It owns and operates a network of 17 terminals with more than 14 million barrels of refined product storage capacity in the Northeastern U.S.
