Cumberland Farms Upgrades SmartPay Program

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Cumberland Farms now offers customers the option to pay for purchases using their mobile phones or by swiping a card as part of its new SmartPay Check-Link payment program. Customers can enroll online at www.cumberlandfarms.com/smartpay for free and then automatically save 10 cents on every gallon of gas, every day, the company reported.

SmartPay Check-Link is an upgrade from the original SmartPay, which launched in April 2012 in partnership with PayPal. Customers can now choose to debit their checking account as a second payment option. The improved program is also available in both mobile and payment card format.

"We are always looking for ways to innovate and leverage new technologies to help our customers save time and money," stated Ari Haseotes, president of Cumberland Farms. "We created the free SmartPay Check-Link program as a secure way for our customers to pay quickly while on-the-go, and to save money on gas every time they fill up at our pumps."

Cumberland Farms joined forces with the National Payment Card Association (NPCA) to enhance the SmartPay program. NPCA ensures secure, PIN-based debit transactions to one's checking account every time a customer swipes their SmartPay Check-Link card or pays with their phone, according to the announcement.

Once customers have enrolled online, they can download the mobile app or pick up a card at a Cumberland Farms store. After their checking account information has been verified, customers only need to swipe their SmartPay Check-Link card at the pump or launch the SmartPay app, which automatically locates the gas station they're located at and lets them turn on the pump from their phone. The app's savings tracker also lets customers know how much money they've saved.

SmartPay Check-Link works inside any Cumberland Farms store. The app is available free on iTunes, the Google Play store or on www.cfsmartpay.com.
