New C-stores Abound for Susser, Love's and Publix
NEW YORK -- The economy may be dampening the holiday season, but convenience store retailers are opening and building more stores, including Susser Holdings Corp., Love’s Travel Stops and Publix Supermarkets, according to published reports.
Susser Holdings is building two new convenience stores in Abeline, Texas, with building permits for $650,000, ReporterNews.com stated. In addition, the Town & Country store in the area was recently rebranded to the Stripes banner, according to the report.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma City-based Love’s Travel Stops broke ground on its latest location in Barstow, Calif., off Interstate 15 at exit 178. The store, which is expected to open in late spring 2009, will employ between 30 and 50 people and will contribute in tax revenues more than $100,000 each year, the company stated. It will also feature 90 truck parking spaces, showers, CAT scales and other amenities, according to the company.
"We’re excited to continue our growth in California and across the country, and we’re proud that we contribute financially to the local economies in locations where we operate," Greg Love, president of Love’s Development Cos., said in a statement. "This location fits well with our commitment to offer a variety of amenities for professional drivers and the motoring public."
In other store opening news, Publix Supermarkets will open its first PIX convenience store in the metro Atlanta area Wednesday, Dec. 17, according to a report by NorthFulton.com. The 3,150-square-foot store is located in the Village Walk Shopping Center at 280 Rucker Road in Alpharetta, Ga.
The store will feature Publix private label items including fresh-baked doughnuts, made-to-order subs with fresh baked breads, Publix milk, bread, ice cream and eggs, the report stated.
PIX will also boast six gas dispensers with 12 pumps.
