Speedway Plans $9.1M Headquarters Expansion

ENON, Ohio -- Speedway LLC plans to spend $9.1 million to expand its headquarters prior to its acquisition of Hess Corp's 1,256-store retail division.

According to the Fairborn Daily Herald, the convenience store division of Marathon Petroleum Corp. intends to purchase a 55,572-square-foot office building in the Springfield NextEdge Applied Research and Technology Park to house the company's expanded operations. Speedway also plans to enhance its existing Enon headquarters, located in Ohio's Clark County, as well as hire 350 additional workers.

"The expansion in Clark County is, in part, a result of that acquisition," Speedway President Tony Kenney told the news outlet. "Clark County was the best location for us to expand and add these jobs."

The new Springfield location will be situated approximately 20 miles from Enon.

"Having facilities in Enon and now in Springfield keeps our operations close together in a central location that is good for attracting talent,” Kenney said. “The community’s affordability, quality of life, great schools and health care system make it an ideal location for our future growth and, more importantly, for our employees who will be working and living here."

The Hess retail acquisition is expected to be completed this quarter. Once the transaction closes, Speedway will have 2,733 company-owned stores, which will make it the second-largest convenience store operator in the country in terms of store count.

“Speedway’s new jobs in Ohio prove that Ohio’s governor, legislature and local communities are working smarter and more effectively than other states,” Ohio State Sen. Chris Widener (R-District 10) told the news source. “We are proud to be the home of Marathon Petroleum and Speedway jobs here in Ohio.”
