QuickChek Has Larger Plans for Long Island

WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. — QuickChek Corp. has long been associated with New Jersey and now the convenience retailer is looking to make a name for itself on Long Island, N.Y.

According to LI News Radio, QuickChek will open its first Long Island location in October and the retailer has plans to build up its island footprint to as many as 20 or 30 stores in the future.

QuickChek will hold a "soft opening" to identify any problems, followed by an Oct. 27 grand opening at its new convenience store on Middle Country Road in Lake Grove, N.Y., said John Schaninger, vice president of sales and marketing. The 24-hour outlet in Suffolk County will employ 30 to 50 people.

In addition to the Lake Grove site, the c-store operator is seeking municipal clearance for locations in Bayport and Seaford, N.Y., although further expansion will hinge on the performance of the initial stores in the market, the news outlet noted.

CSNews Online reported in September 2013 that QuickChek was eyeing a three-parcel site in Bayport and had reportedly reached out to the Bayport-Blue Point Chamber of Commerce and the Bayport Civic Association to discuss a potential store project there.

QuickChek is a privately owned, family-operated company headquartered in Whitehouse Station. It has more than 130 convenience retail locations throughout New Jersey and New York.
