Casey's Gathers Up Real Estate for Its Ohio Entrance

ANKENY, Iowa — Casey's General Stores Inc. is making plans for expansion across small towns in the Miama Valley region of Ohio.

Specifically, the convenience store chain is targeting small towns near Dayton, Ohio, and has sites under contract in Tipp City and Jackson Center, reported the Dayton Business Journal

In total, Casey's had 84 sites under contract as of December 2016, according to Sam James, director of finance for the company.

Along with new builds, Casey's plans to expand through buying existing stores.

"We're one of the few companies looking to acquire convenience stores in small towns," James said.

Casey's is able to expand more aggressively and enter Ohio for the first time due to its second distribution center. The facility opened in Terre Haute, Ind., in April 2016. The original distribution center in Des Moines, Iowa, has a reach of approximately 500 miles, as CSNews Online previously reported.

Ankey-based Casey's General Store operates more than 1,000 c-stores.
