CarterEnergy Seminar Educates Its C-store Operators

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- CarterEnergy Corp. welcomed a handpicked delegation of 30 Kansas City-area convenience store owners and operators to its headquarters earlier this month for a one-day Financial Management seminar. The Jan. 5 event was held at the recommendation of local accounting firm, Small Business Solutions, and conducted by the CBC Learning Center.

CarterEnergy said the goal was to help its store-level partners become more successful. "We live in an ever-changing business world, and we all need to adapt with it in order to excel," explained CarterEnergy Area Manager David Achten, who noted the event exceeded expectations.

Attendees learned how to analyze income statements, balance sheets, cash-flow statements and business reports. By mastering this small handful of documents, everyone in the room could quickly identify trends and red flags, monitor their progress and determine the strengths and weaknesses of their business, according to CBC Learning Center instructor Tom Terrono, who led the seminar.

"By the time we were done for the day, everyone knew how to set sales goals; how to use profit-center accounting; how to maintain cash, credit card and inventory controls; how to analyze expense budgets; and more," Terrono said "Together, we created business profit plans and did daily break-even analyses, and even identified the documents needed to obtain a business loan. Through it all, the whole group was motivated and incredibly focused -- and very grateful to CarterEnergy for bringing them together for this powerful, business-changing event."

"Excited to go back and put several ideas to work," one attendee wrote on the evaluation sheet.
