7-Eleven Heading to University

BOULDER, Colo. -- A new 7-Eleven is moving into the city's University Hill business district, located just off the University of Colorado campus. The convenience store will anchor a building at the corner of 13th Street and College Avenue.

7-Eleven Inc. officials inked a lease to operate the 2,800-square-foot c-store in the former Flatiron Theater building, Steve Moyski, managing partner at Denver's Urban Frontier LLC, told the Boulder Daily Camera. Urban Frontier owns the property.

As a result of the deal, Rose Hill Wine & Spirits is expected to move to a space neighboring the Buffs Barber Shop. Urban Frontier is in the process of taking the space back from Medicine on the Hill, according to the news report.

"Our plan from the beginning of last year was to put openings along College (Avenue) and animate what is now a big blank wall," Moyski said.

Not everyone in the community, however, is as welcoming to the idea of 7-Eleven putting down stakes. Some view the decision to lease space to the convenience store operator "controversial" because it's not independently operated, he said, citing e-mails he has received.

"In this economy, you're seeing very few of those start up because it requires capital to start a new business," he noted.
