Google’s merchant discount platform is live in New York City and San Francisco, according to ClickZ. Not only can shoppers sign up for e-mailed deals. Mobile shoppers can also get in the act where Offers will compete with Groupon’s Now! App.
Offers provides deals based on location. For example, in New York City, Offers promotes different deals for Uptown, Midtown and Downtown residents, said ClickZ. San Francisco residents receive separate offers based upon their location in the city or Oakland.
Google has run a pilot program of Offers in Portland, Ore., since June 1. It plans to roll out the program in Austin, Texas; Boston, Denver, Seattle and Washington D.C. soon.
