Cenex Zip Trip Acquires Two Montana Stores

RD's Party Shop and RD's Travel Stop will transition to the new banner in early March.

BUTTE, Mont. -- Cenex Zip Trip purchased RD's Party Shop and RD's Travel Stop in Butte and will reopen the stores under its own banner in early March, according to a Montana Standard report. Former owner Roy Morris will continue to own and operate RD's Quick Fuel.

RD's Travel Stop will close temporarily at 8 p.m. on March 5 to make the transition. Both locations will reopen as Zip Trip stores on March 6.

The temporary closing of the Travel Stop, which Morris owned for 30 years, will be a rare event, according to the report. "It's never been closed since we bought it … 24/7, 365 days a year it has been open," Morris said.

He stated that Cenex made him a "generous offer" for the sites.

The new Zip Trip stores will operate similarly to before the sale and will retain the existing employees, Morris added.
