NEW YORK -- Franchise Direct, a Web portal for franchise opportunities, recently ranked ampm No. 21 on its inaugural list of the top 100 global franchises. BP’s ampm is the only convenience store brand owned by an integrated oil and gas company to make the list.
"This definitive and exclusive list details the franchises which are performing best on an international level," stated the Franchise Direct report. "The franchises in the Top 100 all share a defined identity, a clear business plan, a commitment to training and support, an ability to innovate and a sensitivity to environmental issues."
Bill Fry, BP's president of convenience retail, U.S. and Latin America, outlined the qualities that landed ampm on the list: "With ampm you get a thoroughly distinctive brand, a history of success, comprehensive support for your business and award-winning marketing support. By combining top brands with our own unique offerings, ampm franchises will continue to lead in the convenience store industry."
The Franchise Direct Top 100 Global Franchises Award recognizes the top franchises out of thousands around the world. To compile its list, Franchise Direct employed a team of researchers who collected information on each individual company and then applied Franchise Direct's scoring system. Areas analyzed included number of units in the franchise system, stability and financial strength, number of years the franchisor has been franchising, financing options and awards or recognition.
The research team used a complex methodology that also considered issues such as corporate citizenship and environmental responsibility.
