MEDIA, Pa. -- For the second year, Wawa will be celebrating the Fourth of July Philadelphia style. The locally headquartered convenience store operator will be the title sponsor of Welcome America!, an 11-day celebration taking place in the City of Brotherly Love.
During Wawa Welcome America!, Philadelphia residents and visitors will find Wawa products, associates and signature events all around the city. Festivities begin on Saturday, June 25 with Taste of Philadelphia – Smooth Moves at Penn Landing, where Wawa will feature its new frozen lemonade smoothies for sampling, and have an interactive dance group to keep things moving.
On Monday, June 27, Wawa will offer a history lesson on the company at Franklin Square, and then on Wednesday, June 29, Wawa associates, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, Philadelphia police officers and firefighters as well as hoagie-lovers from all across the region are invited to Independence Hall to celebrate Hoagie Day 2011. Wawa will honor U.S. soldiers and local heroes by partnering with the USO and serving a 4.5-ton Hoagie salute. Along with free hoagies, the retailer will also serve free Wawa private label beverages.
What’s more, the celebration will feature several movie nights, musical performances, a picnic and a fireworks displays throughout the 11 days. The events will culminate in Philly's Fourth of July Jam and Grand Finale Fireworks headlined by four-time Grammy award-winning band The Roots. Special guests will include Earth, Wind and Fire, Michael McDonald, Estelle, Sara Bareilles and DJ Jazzy Jeff .
