Wawa to Celebrate With July 4th Festival

WAWA, Pa. -- Wawa Inc. is the new sponsor of Philadelphia's Welcome America!, a multi-day festival featuring fireworks, food, history and entertainment part of the city's July 4th showcase.

Wawa replaces event sponsor Sunoco, which backed the festival for more than a decade, according to a report by Examiner.com. The c-store operator will reportedly pay $3 million over the three-year commitment.

Welcome America! kicks off with its "Taste of Philadelphia" culinary event, which will include a performance by funk/pop group Morris Day and The Time. The festival also includes the Ice Cream Festival, a screening of "Grease," and Wawa Hoagie Day, which will feature a mile-long Wawa hoagie on June 30, according to the Web site.

The nine-day festival starts on June 26, with a free concert and fireworks show, and wraps up on July 4, with a parade through historic Philadelphia and a free outdoor concert on the Ben Franklin Parkway featuring The Goo Goo Dolls.
