VERC Promotes Fitzgerald to COO

DUXBURY, Mass. -- VERC Enterprises, a leader in independent convenience store/gasoline stations, has promoted CFO and 15-year team member Jim Fitzgerald to the position of chief operating officer.

This is a newly-created position at VERC Enterprises. CEO Leo Vercollone said that the company's growth and its strategic planning for future expansion led to the need for the new position. In this role, Fitzgerald will oversee the day-to-day operations of the firm, working directly with CEO Leo Vercollone and Vice President Paul Vercollone, and will also oversee the firm's financial operations.

Fitzgerald joined VERC Enterprises in 1995 as the firm's director of finance. In 2000 he was promoted to chief financial officer.

In announcing Fitzgerald's promotion yesterday, Leo Vercollone said, "Jim has been a major influence in our company's continued growth and development. He has repeatedly shown the ability to direct many facets of our organization and the desire to bring our company to the next level. As we look toward this decade and see it as one of strong expansion for us, we know that we are in good shape with Jim's vision and guidance."

Prior to his affiliation with VERC Enterprises, Fitzgerald spent 12 years as a senior manager at the Rockland, Mass. CPA firm Needel, Welch & Stone, and he was also CPA/manager for the Boston firm Vitale, Caturano and Co. He holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Stonehill College and a master's degree in computer information systems from Bentley College.

The Braintree, Mass. native is a member of the Massachusetts Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs. He also serves on the legislative committee of the New England Convenience Stores Association.
