Vending Machines in Taxi Cabs? It Could Happen

New York City applauds idea to sell energy drinks, snack bars and more from the yellow vehicles.

NEW YORK -- Need an energy drink, snack bar, gum, breath mints or pain relievers on the go? New Yorkers may soon have a new way to quench their hunger and thirst.

A city-sponsored contest for new business ideas yielded the idea of vending machines in taxi cabs, according to the New York Post. The idea won rave reviews from the city.

"New Yorkers demand convenience. They want to be as effective with their time as possible," Brian Shimmerlik, an NYU Stern School of Business student and the person behind TaxiTreats, the company he founded to provide this service, told the newspaper.

It's unknown how soon vending machines could be installed in taxi cabs or what retail price each item would fetch.
