ALBERTA, Canada -- Valleyview Super Station in northern Alberta marked its first anniversary last month, including a celebration of winning the Best Green Design category in Convenience Store News ' 2010 Store Design Contest held earlier this year.
Over 300 people -- from a town of only 1,884 -- joined in the celebration throughout the two hour celebration. Under a large tent set up in the store's parking lot and decorated with green balloons, owners of the store from Winvest Valley Ltd. joined with guests to recognize key individuals in the project.
Presentations of replicas of the Convenience Store News Best Store Design plaque were presented to:
Glen Hommy, WinVest Valleyview, President, Vision & Conceptual Design
Bill Rutledge, Architect, William C. Rutledge Associates
Todd Teolis, AWP Contractors Ltd., General Contractor
Breck Sinclair, Gateway Mechanical, Geothermal Contractor
Blake & Erika Sparks, Valleyview Super Station, Store Managers
Mike Evans, "Mike Evans on the Road", Promotions
Greg Spicer, Finance
Ryan Bowen, Shell Canada Ltd., Territorial Manager
Brad Litwin, Store Systems Manager
Following the award presentations was an official cake cutting and then the Celebration Barbeque, hosted by Prairie Rose 4-H was open to the public. Everyone enjoyed Europa Deli & Sausage Hut double smoked polish sausage on a bun, corn on the cob (supplied by Cherries "R" Us") and of course, cake. In-store there was samplings of Rogers' Chocolate line as well as a draw for a portable barbeque, compliments of Brad Allen of National Energy Equipment.
Afterwards, recipients and honored guests were taken on a riverboat ride up the scenic Smoky River where they had a barbequed supper before returning. Going up the river was a beautiful way to view the splendid wilderness area of the Peace Country and reminded everyone of why WinVest Valleyview strived to reduce their carbon footprint in the building of the Valleyview Super Station.
