Valero Promotes EVP to Company President

SAN ANTONIO -- Valero Energy Corp. will see a leadership change when Joe Gorder takes the role of president and COO on Jan. 1.

Gorder currently serves as Valero's executive vice president and COO, responsible for refining operations and commercial operations in marketing, supply and transportation. He will replace Bill Klesse as president when the new year begins. Klesse will continue as the company's chairman and CEO, according to various media reports.

"This new title reflects Joe's commitment to excellence in all aspects of our business and his ongoing leadership in our operations," Klesse said in a statement. "We thank him for his hard work and dedication to our company."

During his tenure at Valero, Gorder served as chief commercial officer and president of Valero Europe. He also has served as Valero's executive vice president-marketing and supply, following tenure as senior vice president for corporate development and strategic planning.

Before joining Valero, Gorder held the positions of vice president of business development for Ultramar Diamond Shamrock, and director of commercial/industrial sales, assistant treasurer and director of information systems for Diamond Shamrock.

Gorder earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and a master's degree in business administration from Our Lady of the Lake University.
