    U.S. Smokeless Selects New Ad Agency

    Company's smokeless tobacco brand advertising will be handled by Colangelo.

    GREENWICH, Conn. -- U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Co., parent company to UST, signed a letter of intent to employ Colangelo as its advertising agency of record for its smokeless tobacco brands. The agreement brings to an end a four-year relationship with Doe Anderson, a Louisville, Ky.-based ad agency.

    Colangelo, located in Darien, Conn., will implement comprehensive integrated advertising and marketing campaigns for U.S. Smokeless' smokeless tobacco products, including Copenhagen, Skoal, Red Seal and Husky.

    Using Creative Focus LLC, U.S. Smokeless began searching for a new agency earlier this year as part of Project Momentum, a cost-saving initiative that reviewed vendor partnerships. After examining the top three agencies, the 13-year-old Colangelo firm was chosen because of its skill in creating integrated marketing platforms across numerous communication mediums.

    "We look forward to working with Colangelo to maximize the equity of our signature brands going forward," said Thano Chaltas, vice president of marketing for U.S. Smokeless. "We are very impressed with their integrated approach to advertising and marketing communications and believe it aligns closely with our vision for engaging adult consumers in the coming years. The fact that they are located close by here in Connecticut will help foster a strong working relationship."
