United Supermarkets Grows Its C-store Footprint

LUBBOCK, Texas -- United Supermarkets will soon break ground on freestanding United Express convenience stores at its locations in Borger, Texas, and Dumas, Texas. Construction is set to begin shortly and be completed by mid-2013, according to Tony Crumpton, executive vice president of facilities, fuel and supply for United Supermarkets LLC.

The new locations will be the company's sixth and seventh freestanding c-stores. The 2,400-square-foot facilities will feature a full-service drive-thru window; a five-pump, 10-dispenser fuel station that offers gasoline and diesel; and a wide assortment of "fresh-to-go" items made inside the store, such as breakfast burritos, hot sandwiches, fresh fruit, f'Real milkshakes and other frozen beverages, alongside traditional convenience items.

"One of the key attractions of the convenience store – and especially for the drive-thru window – will be our specialty coffee and tea service," Crumpton said. "Using our own popular Arriba brand, we'll offer a full line of made-to-order coffees and tea – including lattés, smoothies and frappes, on par with any other coffee retailer anywhere. Whether it's grabbing a hot latté in the morning, or a bag of ice and gallon of milk on the way home, we believe our Borger and Dumas guests are truly going to enjoy the drive-thru experience."

They stores will also create 10 to 12 jobs each in their communities, according to the announcement. Hours of operation will be 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily for the Dumas store, and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. for the Borger store.

Following the Borger project, United Supermarkets will conduct a major remodeling effort for its main store there, the company said. The remodel is still in the planning stages but will start as quickly as possible once the new c-stores are completed.

"The full scope of work is still being determined, but we already know it will include an update of the interior, particularly the deli, along with new equipment and exterior updates where needed," Crumpton stated.

Including the Borger store, a total of five remodeling efforts are planned for 2013. "We intend to be more strategic in maintaining our retail locations in the years ahead in order to meet our guests' needs and positively impact their shopping experience," Crumpton relayed.

United Supermarkets LLC is a Texas-based, family-owned grocery chain that operates 51 stores under the United Supermarkets, United Express, Market Street and Amigos United banners in 30 markets across north and west Texas.
