Two Uni-Marts to Reopen

CURWENSVILLE, Pa. -- After a monthlong closure, the Uni-Mart here and another in Hype, Pa., will reopen as member stores of the Uni-Mart Corp., according to a report in The Progress News.

The Curwensville store is tentatively set to welcome customers May 1, while the Hyde location is scheduled to open its doors May 4, Sheri Price, executive administrative assistant for Uni-Mart Corp., told the paper.

"It's great they are going to reopen. ... "It is especially good for the community now that lawn-mowing season is here. People will not have to take their gas cans to Clearfield and then haul them back," Mark Curulla, president of Curwensville Borough Council, told the paper.

In May 2008, Uni-Mart LLC of State College, Pa., filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. As a result of the filing, 45 of the company's "under performing" stores were closed at that time, according to the report.
