TravelCenters of America To Roll Out DEF Dispensers

WESTLAKE, Ohio -- TravelCenters of America is on target to roll out on-island Diesel Exhaust Fluid dispensers at 50 locations in the new year. The installations will use new dispenser and POS systems that will make buying DEF quicker, more efficient and customer friendly, according to the company.

The selected locations will feature dedicated DEF dispenser at the fueling islands. Large storage tanks will be installed away from the fuel islands. The first five locations to see the DEF dispenser come online are the TravelCenters of America in Lodi, Ohio and Nashville (reopening in February 2011) and the Petro Shopping Centers locations in Spokane, Wash., Kingman, Ariz., and El Paso, Texas.

"We are excited to have worked so hard and so closely with key industry players to develop and bring our customers the best solution for the DEF needs," said Thomas M. O’Brien, president and chief executive officer of TravelCenters of America. "The technology we will employ integrates the DEF dispenser with our point of sale and other systems so that drivers can purchase fuel and diesel exhaust fluid in a single transaction, and TA is the first travel center chain to bring this capability to market."

Currently all 228 TA and Petro branded locations have 2.5 gallon containers of DEF available at the fuel desk, travel store or truck maintenance counters and all of the company’s RoadSquad emergency roadside vehicles carry a supply.

Love’s Travel Stops also plans to install DEF dispensers at 40 locations over the next several months, as CSNews Online previously reported.
