CARY, N.C. -- Thomas D. Carney is joining The Pantry's executive roster as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary.

In his new executive leadership position, Carney will oversee the legal affairs team, including board governance, securities regulation, and labor and employment law issues. He will also have oversight of the risk management group.

"Tom is a proven leader with more than 25 years experience in business and corporate law, and we are excited to have him join the leadership team," said The Pantry’s President and CEO Terry Marks.

Carney comes to the c-store chain from Borders Group Inc. where he began as general counsel and secretary in 1994. He then moved up the ladder to senior vice president, general counsel and secretary in 2004. His previous positions included serving as vice president, general counsel and secretary at Hoover Universal Inc., and as partner at the Dickinson Wright law firm.
