Kangaroo Express' The Roo Makes a Run for Mayor

PrintKangaroo Express' The Roo Makes a Run for Mayor

CARY, N.C. -- The Roo, known as the voice of The Pantry's Kangaroo Express convenience stores, announced his write-in candidacies for mayor of Charleston, S.C., and Charlotte, N.C.

"We believe every man, woman and child deserve to make a break in their day," The Roo said. "The people have spoken and you want change. You want hot, fresh coffee, you want mouthwatering doughnuts and you do not want to go broke enjoying them."

There are 61 Kangaroo Express c-stores in the Charleston market and 75 stores in the Charlotte market that recently have been revamped to bring the company's "Fresh Initiative" to guests. The initiative includes the addition of the retailer's new Bean Street coffee and fresh food and bakery options, offered in a fast, friendly and clean store environment.

To support The Roo's movement, fans can visit www.voteforroo.com or text VOTE to 67777 to join the Roo Club and benefit from the first of The Roo's campaign promises -- a free cup of coffee on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 8. Supporters who vote will also receive deals including 49-cent Coffee Wednesdays and Free Coffee Fridays.

Among The Roo's other promises are:
• Piping hot Bean Street Coffee that guests can customize with a wide assortment of flavorings-- without having to order it in a fancy language;
• Doughnuts that are always fresh; and
• Hot dogs -- all-beef, all-natural Ballpark franks -- plus a drink for just a $1.50.

"We believe in everyone who walks through our doors, the hardworking Americans who grind it out day after day," said John Fisher, senior vice president of marketing at The Pantry and campaign advisor for The Roo. "At Kangaroo Express, we want you to fill your cup high, load your hot dog with extra chili, walk a little taller on the way to your car and show today who's boss -- it's time to 'Get Right at the Roo.'"

The Pantry Inc. operates more than 1,600 convenience stores in 13 states.
