7-Eleven Sending Mitt Romney Cookies

Print7-Eleven Sending Mitt Romney Cookies

BETHEL PARK, Pa. -- 7-Eleven Inc. is taking the high road regarding a disparaging joke presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney made about a plate of cookies he received during a campaign stop at a community center located in this Pittsburgh suburb.

Romney jokingly slammed a plate of cookies donated by Bethel Bakery stating, "I'm not sure about these cookies. They don't look like you made them," he said, turning to one of the women at the table. "Did you make those cookies? You didn't, did you? No. No. They came from the local 7-Eleven bakery or wherever."

However, instead of being upset about the comment, 7-Eleven is sending the politician cookies to his Boston campaign headquarters that were, in fact, made by the convenience store chain.

"Mitt Romney is right," 7-Eleven spokesperson Margaret Chabris told New York magazine. "There are bakeries dedicated just to delivering and making fresh baked goods every day, 365 days a year, for 7-Eleven stores. So we were very amused, because he got it right."

The incident led offended area residents to start Facebook and Twitter campaigns. Romney's comments eventually became known as "CookieGate."
