Thorntons Opens Six in December

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Thorntons opened six new convenience stores during December 2009, four of which are located in Nashville, Tenn., expanding the market to 10 locations in two and one-half years, according to the company.

"We are thrilled about the grand openings of our newest stores," Matt Thornton, CEO of Thorntons, said in a statement. "Our goal is to provide our customers with a unique shopping experience. From our world-class JaLava Coffee, to our high-quality fresh food and value-priced snack, beverage and grocery products, we hope to delight our customers with an enjoyable one-stop shopping experience."

Other new stores opened in the Chicago suburb of East Dundee, Ill., and in Champaign, Ill. All of the stores opened with promotional offers on products and services, the company stated. With the opening of these stores, Thorntons operates 161 convenience store locations throughout Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana and Ohio.

The new stores feature high-quality foods, such as fresh sandwiches, salads, fruit and more. The new stores also feature a redesigned look with a greater focus on fresh food and refreshments, including a roller grill bar design that offers hot dogs, corndogs and more, the company stated.

Other foodservice offerings include fountain drinks, ICEE frozen carbonated beverages, smoothies and coffee.

Thorntons will have formal grand opening events for the new convenience stores between late February and early March, which will feature an appearance by Thorntons' mascot,
Champ.
