Thorntons Funds Park Maintenance Program

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Gasoline and convenience store retailer Thorntons Inc. challenged other Louisville-area businesses to help fund the Waterfront Clean Team, a group of high school and college students who keep the local park clean from May to September each year, according to a report by Business First of Louisville.

Thorntons, based here, will pay $35,000 to fund the team for the 2010 season if other businesses agree to pay the same amount to fund the program through 2015, the Waterfront Development Corp. said in a news release.

The Clean Team is branded with the company name of the donor. The brand is used on uniform T-shirts and in publicity pieces mentioning the program.

Clean Team members pick up litter, pull weeds and perform general maintenance in the park’s two play areas, the public garden and other common spaces.
Past sponsors include Kindred Healthcare and Aegon.
