LONDON -- Tesco selected Micro Focus, a software company, to expand its supply chain applications and support for the retailer's move into the US market, ComputerworldUK.com reported.
Tesco's Continuous Replenishment supply chain management system monitors and controls in-store inventory. Using Micro Focus, the company can update and extend the system to be deployed in Tesco's California offices, which will support the first U.S. Tesco store, due to open later this year, the report stated.
"Elements of our common operating model are already in place and benefiting some of our businesses," said Colin Cobain, group IT director at Tesco. "Micro Focus' modernization expertise is not only helping us maintain the momentum behind this strategic IT project, but is also playing a key role in the development of our US presence."
The update will also provide a platform for the company's continuing expansion across the globe and will be rolled out across its global facilities. The company uses a common operating model in all its businesses and has established a system for deployment called "Tesco-in-a-box," where new country operations are provided with all the systems it needs, including supply chain and replenishment applications, the report stated.
Micro Focus will allow Tesco to maintain a single source stream for both mainframe and UNIX versions of its applications, ensuring that future updates to the UK-based mainframe application can be rolled out in the U.S. as well as internationally, on existing servers.
