Target Expands Fresh Food Selection in More Stores

Ninety locations will be remodeled by late June to have the enhanced assortment.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The fresh food selection will be expanded at 90 more Target stores across the United States by late June.

These stores will mark the second of three cycles of remodels to be completed by Target this year. Stores scheduled for the June remodel cycle span markets across the country, from Des Moines, Iowa, to El Paso, Texas, to Dayton, Ohio.

"We are excited to incorporate our enhanced food assortment into additional stores in June," said Annette Miller, Target's senior vice president of grocery. "By remodeling these stores, we bring an expanded offering of fresh food and added convenience to our guests in these communities."

Nearly 1,000 Target stores currently offer the expanded fresh food layout. At these stores, about 10,000 square feet is dedicated to a vast array of fresh food choices, including an assortment of fresh produce, fresh packaged meat and pre-packaged baked goods, in addition to dry and frozen offerings. By the end of the year, more than 1,100 Target stores will offer this expanded layout.

Target's expanded fresh food assortment includes a selection of national food brands, plus Target's own brands, including Archer Farms foods, Market Pantry value staples and meal options, and Sutton & Dodge USDA Choice beef. Beyond the grocery aisles, most of Target's new and remodeled general merchandise stores also feature updates in other areas, including home, beauty and apparel.

Minneapolis-based Target Corp. operates 1,765 stores throughout the United States, with its first stores in Canada set to open in 2013.
