Sunoco's Growth Spurt Continues With Alabama Deals

PHILADELPHIA -- Thirteen new Sunoco-branded sites in the Birmingham, Ala., market are moving into the company's portfolio as a result of deals between Sunoco and Quality Petroleum of Alabama and Chattahoochee Oil, distributors of petroleum products. The locations, according to the a map on the company's website, will be the first Sunoco retail holdings in Alabama.

Twelve of the locations are currently under construction and slated to open at the end of the third quarter. The 13th location, a Quality Petroleum location at 4809 McAdory School Rd. in McCalla, Ala., is holding its grand opening today.

"We are excited about the opportunity to sell Sunoco's quality fuel in the state of Alabama. Sunoco's NASCAR connection is generating tremendous interest,” said David Melton, Quality Petroleum of Alabama's vice president. "We've been providing quality fuels to a great customer base for many years and we look forward to expanding that base with Sunoco by improving not only our service, but our fuel offerings."

In the past 18 months, Sunoco has added more than 250 locations to its retail network. The growth spurt has been driven by the company's push into the Southeast market, with large expansions in Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

"I am thrilled that Sunoco fuel can now be purchased in Alabama near the historic Talladega Superspeedway," said Bob Owens, Sunoco's senior vice president of marketing. "Our recent success in winning over new distributors has helped Sunoco enter new markets such as Alabama and expand our presence along the I-95 corridor, and in the Midwest and other Southeastern states. We remain focused on building the brand's reputation in all of our markets."
