Subway Restaurants Hit a Milestone

NEW YORK -- Subway restaurants' total store count reached 20,000 worldwide on Wednesday, according to Dick Meyer of Meyer and Associates, a consultant to the sub sandwich and salad chain.

Meyer commented, "From my perspective I have always been thrilled with Subway's 'keep it simple' approach to development and business in general. Whereas many might have concluded a few years back that there are too many Subways, founder and CEO Fred DeLuca disproved that theory several by providing each territory with a map of their counties showing various colors that signify appropriate coverage, underdevelopment, and other stages. This allows people to focus where they need more stores or potentially forfeit those sites to QSR competitors. It isn't any more complicated than that."

Subway restaurants can now be found in more than 2,500 convenience stores, Meyer added.
