LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Thornton Oil Corp. is giving $150,000 to fund a new foundation for education. Graham Baughman, Thornton's chief operating officer, will serve as the administrator of the Thorntons Foundation.
"We have several organizations identified for upcoming contributions, including the University of Louisville, the Louisville Science Center, the Boys and Girls Club and various other educational organizations," Baughman said.
The Thorntons Foundation initially is being funded with the proceeds generated by Thornton Oil convenience stores that were set up in the Churchill Downs racetrack infield on this year's Oaks and Derby horse races.
Thornton Oil officials had said they would not profit from the stores, which were established to sell items that fans were forbidden to bring to the track.
