Star Fuel's Stores Receives Golden Cup Award for Coffee

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Star Fuel's All Star Stores, a 53 store c-store chain based here, was recognized by the Specialty Coffee Association of America with a Golden Cup Award for Brewed Coffee.

The award is given annually to select retailers and restaurants that properly grind and brew specialty coffee. To be eligible for the Golden Cup Award, the retailer must prepare coffee beverages to the associations brewing standard.

To apply for the award, Alan Wilkerson, Star Fuel's COO, submitted a sample of the company's water and brewed coffee for laboratory analysis by the association. The association tested the amount of minerals in the water, and the ratio of water to coffee in the brewed coffee sample.

To celebrate the recognition, Star Fuel executives and team members will serve free cups of the chain's Bella Supremo on Feb. 21 from 8 a.m. to noon at its West Memorial Road location in Oklahoma City. Also available will be free pastries and goodies. Members of the company will be available to answer questions about the coffee and other specialty coffees.

"Star Fuel is serving up a great cup of coffee that adheres to the association's strict brewing standards," said Mike Ferguson, Specialty Coffee Association of America chief of staff. "They are also educating the public about specialty coffee, which refers to the highest-quality green coffee beans roasted to their greatest flavor potential by true craftspeople, and then properly brewed to well-established standards."

The Specialty Coffee Association of America is the world's largest coffee trade organization with members from more than 40 countries, according to the group. Its members come from a variety of segments within the coffee industry, from growers to roasters and retailers.
