Speedy's C-stores Verify IDs at POS

ST. JOESEPH, Mo. -- Speedy's Convenience Stores is cracking down on the sales of underage products.

All eight of the Speedy's locations are now Verifone Topaz point-of-sale (POS) systems, which allow cashiers to scan or swipe customer IDs to confirm their validity and the customer's birth date, StJoeNews.net reported.

According to Speedy's vice president, Jason Rowe, the scanner only verifies the ID and does not store any other information about the customer or the sale. The customer's birth date is then printed on the receipt, the report stated.

Additionally, to reinforce the practice among employees, the company is giving a bonus each time an employee successfully passes on alcohol or tobacco sting operation by law enforcement, according to Rowe.
