Speedway SuperAmerica Raises $4.5 Million for Children's Hospitals

SALT LAKE CITY -- Speedway SuperAmerica LLC (SSA) raised approximately $4.5 million for Children's Miracle Network hospitals in 2009, helping to propel the company to a total contribution of $34 million since 1991, according to Children's Miracle Network.

"We are truly honored to be recognized by Children's Miracle Network for our philanthropic efforts," Tony Kenney, president of SSA, said in a released statement. "Our tremendous fundraising results over the past few years are a testament to the generosity of our customers and vendor partners fueled by the energy of our employees for this very worthwhile cause."

The 2009 donations were up 50 percent from 2008, marking the third consecutive year SSA and its convenience stores achieved double-digit increases in its fundraising for children's hospitals, making SSA is the largest contributor to Children's Miracle Network from the convenience store industry, the company reported.

"Even during a difficult economic climate, Speedway SuperAmerica employees continue to embrace the idea of giving back to their communities," said Scott Burt, president and CEO of Children's Miracle Network, in a released statement.

A sponsor of Children's Miracle Network since 1991, SSA raised more than $34 million for children's hospitals through turnkey programs provided by Children's Miracle Network such as canister campaigns, grassroots fundraising activities, employee payroll deduction programs and an annual corporate golf tournament.
