Speedway Stores Rebranding

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Speedway SuperAmerica stores in Florida will begin rebranding to Sunoco next week, the companies reported.

A Lakeland, Fla. store is one of the first two Speedway stores Philadelphia-based Sunoco Inc. is taking over following a deal in February to purchase 193 Speedway gas stations and convenience stores in the Southeast United States, including 115 in Florida, from Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC for $140 million plus the cost of inventory.

The stores, which sell on a monthly average more than 175,000 gallons of gasoline and $90,000 in merchandise, will be renamed APlus convenience stores and carry the Sunoco fuel logo. The company already has more than 4,300 retail sites nationwide, which reported $14.3 billion in sales in 2002.
