Kansas C-store Gets New Lease on Life After Tax Seizure

OSAWATOMIE, Kan. -- The Quick Stop convenience store here got a new lease on life this week after a sudden shutdown late last year, KccommunityNews.com reported.

On Dec. 14, the Kansas Department of Revenue served several tax warrants and seized all business assets associated with Quick Stop after the store's owner and operator, Cameron Guliford, had accrued $71,100.73 in unpaid sales taxes and withholding taxes.

The business was purchased at a public auction Jan. 8, and a new partnership has been forged to reopen the gas station and c-store, according to a Department of Revenue representative.

This Friday is the targeted reopening date, the report stated.

Paul and Tony Singh, of Tonganoxie, Kan., have assumed ownership and reached out to Guliford to continue maintaining the store's daily operations. The business is set to receive a complete remodel, including new floors and soda fountains. The Singhs also said they plan to install a new sign outside the store in the near future, and offer fresh doughnuts and other pastries inside.

"That's one thing the store has never had -- fresh pastries in the morning," Tony Singh said.

The Singhs and Guliford said they are confident and hopeful that the new ownership will help bring greater stability and fresh ideas to the local business, according to the report.
