Shell, Cybera Reach Milestone of 10,000 Deployments

HOUSTON -- The partnership between Shell Oil Products U.S. and Cybera Inc. has led to 10,000 deployments of the Cybera ONE platform at Shell locations in the United States. In total, more than two-thirds of Shell's retail sites nationwide are using Cybera's ADN solutions.

In March, Shell tapped Cybera, a provider of cloud-based security and application services, to migrate its payment card traffic at domestic Shell-branded locations from Shell's very-small-aperture terminal (VSAT) satellite network to a next-generation broadband solution by the end of the year, as CSNews Online previously reported.

According to Nashville-based Cybera, the move will save Shell millions of dollars in credit card fraud by thieves who breach its satellite system technology.

"We are proud to have achieved this level of success in Shell stores across the country. Reaching five-figure-sized deployments in this short timeframe is a landmark accomplishment that very few technologies have the privilege of attaining," said Cliff Duffey, CEO of Cybera. "We look forward to our future with Shell and the continued growth of Cybera as a provider of network security solutions to distributed enterprise customers and application partners."

Cybera provides a plug-and-play solution for retail outlets, securely hosting proprietary applications for payment and loyalty required to run in each store. The company also includes a 3G/4G wireless backup in each appliance, allowing the store better uptime and reliability for critical applications such as payment processing.

As it began the transformation of its payment process, Shell also launched an incentive program to drive adoption of the Cybera ONE solution across its wholesaler and dealer network. The program is intended to reduce the upfront cost of the platform for the first 4,000 orders placed now through June 17.

Shell Oil Products U.S. is a subsidiary of Shell Oil Co.
