Shell Brings Fuel Rewards Network to Portland Area

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The holiday season has brought extra savings at the pump for drivers in the greater Portland area, as Shell Oil Co. continues to expand its Fuel Rewards Network (FRN).

"Shell knows more consumers are looking for a smart loyalty rewards program that can help them save money at the pump without having to jump through hoops or sacrifice their quality of fuel," Dan Little, Shell's North American marketing manager, said in a press release.

As previously reported by CSNews Online, Shell's FRN program debuted this June and is powered by Excentus, a Dallas-based marketing developer. Through FRN, consumers are able to accrue rewards points by shopping at participating stores and restaurants.

Portland consumers can save in two ways: through online mall and dining options. In the online mall, consumers can access nearly 700 brand-name online merchants and earn 5 cents per gallon on every $50 spent. As Shell noted, some online merchants offer savings multipliers on certain deals. Through the dining rewards option, consumers earn 10 cents per gallon for every $50 spent at more than 10,000 participating restaurant locations nationwide.

"By teaming up with Shell, local consumers who participate in our program will be able to set their own price for high-quality fuel simply by choosing to buy the things they normally buy through one of our participating retailers and programs," explained Dickson Perry, Excentus' founder, chairman and CEO.

Consumers can also combine their multiple reward offers for more substantial savings at the pump. While the average consumer savings is 29 cents per gallon, some consumers have paid as little as 1 cent per gallon, according to the "Leaderboard of Savings" on Shell’s FRN website, fuelrewards.com.

Consumers can save on up to 20 gallons per purchase on all grades of Shell's nitrogen enriched gasolines, including Shell V-Power Premium Gasoline and Shell Diesel at participating locations.

Portland-area consumers can participate in the program by picking up a free FRN card at any one of the more than 170 participating local Shell stations or online at fuelrewards.com. They can also download the FRN Mobile App for iPhones to find nearby savings, track rewards and locate Shell stations. More information about the program is available under Shell's "On the Road" tab on Facebook.

Shell plans to grow the FRN program from 180 U.S. markets to 200 by the end of the year.
