Sheetz Rolling Out Blockbuster Express DVD Kiosks

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Sheetz is adding Blockbuster Express DVD movie-rental kiosks from NCR at nearly all 365 convenience store locations, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.

This rollout, expected to be complete at the end of this month, marks the biggest so far for NCR, as it enters six new markets throughout North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The company spent $60 million last year to grow the entertainment business, including buying two other leading kiosk operators, according to the report.

"Entertainment for us is one of our emerging businesses -- one that we're very focused on and one that we're very invested in," said Alex Camara, vice president and general management of NCR Entertainment.

Blockbuster licenses its brand to NCR and shares in the revenue from the free-standing DVD rental kiosks, and also supplies NCR with some movies. Blockbuster also provided expertise related to consumer demographics, Camara said in The Wall Street Journal report.

However, NCR is running the kiosk business, including paying for and servicing the machines, and Blockbuster Chairman and Chief Executive Jim Keyes said last month the company is "delighted" with its partnership with NCR, the report stated.
