Sheetz Named a Top 5 Employer in Ohio

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Sheetz Inc., a 334-location convenience chain with 24 locations in Ohio, according to the company's Web site, edged up one spot on the list of Best Large Employers in Ohio, landing in the Top 5, at No. 5 -- a first for the company.

This honor was awarded to Sheetz and a select number of other top companies at the Ohio Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting in Columbus. Ohio Lieutenant Governor Lee Fisher, presented Sheetz with an award for its efforts to provide an outstanding workplace while keeping employees satisfied through programs such as a quarterly employee bonus and employee stock purchase options, the company stated.

"Our continued success in Ohio is important to us here at Sheetz and we are truly honored to be recognized in this way," Stan Sheetz, president and CEO, Sheetz, said in a written statement. "The fact that our employees look at our company as a place they enjoy working is an even bigger honor. They are really the reason we've received this award. Our employees gave Sheetz high marks for being a company they want to work for and we're proud of that."

This was the second year that companies were honored. Last year, Sheetz ranked sixth on the list.

Winners were chosen through a two-part evaluation process by the Best Companies Group. Workplace policies, philosophy, systems and demographics made up 25 percent of a company's score, while 75 percent consisted of an employee survey to quantify the employee experience. A combination of the two scores determined the final rank.

Sheetz was one of 10 companies with 250 employees or more to receive the honor.

Sheetz also ranks 79th on the Forbes list of largest private companies.
