ALTOONA, Pa. -- Sheetz Inc. may be a relative newcomer to the North Carolina retail scene, but the convenience store retailer has already made a name for itself -- ranking third on the Best Places to Work in North Carolina list.
By taking the No. 3 spot this year, the company has earned its highest ranking in any of the six states in which it operates convenience stores. Last year, in the inaugural year of the Best Places to Work in North Carolina program, Sheetz was included among the top 10 best large companies to work for in the state.
Sheetz is also the only restaurant, convenience store, grocery store or retailer to make the best employer list in North Carolina.
"We are proud of our North Carolina teams who took the time to complete their surveys and shared their views about Sheetz as an employer. It earned us the No. 3 spot," the company announced on its website.
The family-owned business, based in Altoona, Pa., currently operates 450 convenience stores, 56 of which are in North Carolina. The chain plans to open at least a dozen more stores in the state over the next few years. To support this expansion, Sheetz is building a 250,000-square-foot distribution facility in Burlington, N.C., as CSNews Online previously reported.
