HOUSTON -- Shanali "Shawn" Bhagat, founder and CEO of American Fuel Distributors LP of Dallas, has been named chairman of the board of directors of the National Alliance of Trade Associations Inc. (NATA). Bhagat will serve as chairman of NATA, an organization whose membership represents over 4,600 independently-owned and operated convenience stores across the United States. Bhagat founded American Fuel Distributors (www.american-fuel.com) in 1999 after two decades of experience as an entrepreneur and small business owner. In less than 10 years, the company has grown from serving a handful of contracts to providing fuel to more than 100 customers.

The company also was designated in 2009 as the fifth-largest North Texas minority-owned business and is one of the largest independent fuel distributors in Texas.
Bhagat also currently serves as president of the Northern Texas Trade Association Co-op and is on the boards of several other organizations, including the Texas Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association, Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce, Greater Dallas Asian American Chamber of Commerce, North Texas Commission, World Affairs Council, Associate Board - SMU Cox School of Business, and the Dallas Committee on Foreign Relations.
