Scotchman Acquires Young's Food Stores
WILMINGTON, N.C.
Looking to expand its reach, the Worsley Companies Inc. is adding 30-unit Young's Food Stores Inc. to its two-state market.
The Wilmington, N.C.-based operator of 120 Scotchman Stores Inc., which operates in North Carolina and South Carolina, will retain the Young's Food Stores name.
"These stores fit into our market area, without overlapping or competing," Richard Mione, Scotchman Stores' director of marketing, told CSNews Online. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Young's Food Stores, with dairy-store roots, have a strong grocery business and successfully cater to each market, Mione said. "One thing we will make sure we do is go in and learn and not just make drastic changes," he said.
Every Young's Food Store offers gasoline. The chain is primarily branded Citgo, but has also developed its own brand, Anytime Fuel. Scotchman Stores are branded Exxon, Amoco, BP, Shell, Texaco or fly the proprietary WCs banner.
In other news Scotchman Stores opened two new upscale stores, across from each other along Highway 501 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. One is the first Mobil location in the city.
