Sam's Club Hosts Hispanic Actress and Breast Cancer Survivor Adamari Lopez

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Sam's Club and General Mills will host a Breast Cancer Awareness event at the grand reopening of the Evanston location Friday, May 6, at 5 p.m. Hispanic superstar and breast cancer survivor Adamari Lopez will be on hand to meet with fans and sign autographs.

"At Sam's Club, we are committed to serving our local community by providing them with great values on health and wellness items," said Joel Robles, club manager. "We are fortunate to have Ms. Lopez joining us to help spread the word about breast cancer. This disease affects many of our members, and the best way to help them fight it is to start with awareness."

In addition, Lopez will receive a donation from General Mills to help fight against breast cancer. Sam's Club members and guests are also encouraged to come and learn more about breast cancer awareness and meet Lopez. Some attendees will receive autographed memorabilia from Lopez.

Lopez is an actress best known for participating in several Puerto Rican and Mexican soap operas, as well as acting in numerous films and plays. Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in Hispanic women, and Lopez is anxious to spread the word as she too is a survivor of this disease.

"General Mills and the Yoplait brand have a long-standing commitment to breast cancer awareness through the 'Save Lids to Save Lives' program," said Shelley Slachowitz, General Mills. "We're excited to partner with Sam's Club to share Adamari's message. Through a regular check-up, her doctor was able to detect the breast cancer early and they were able to successfully treat the disease. "

The General Mills Yoplait brand contributes up to $1.5 million each year to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation through its signature "Save Lids to Save Lives" promotion, in which consumers collect and submit pink package lids. Combined with the Yoplait guaranteed donation of $500,000, more than $2 million can be raised for breast cancer research each year. Lopez is also the official spokes person for Yoplait's "Save Lids to Save Lives" breast cancer awareness campaign.
