    Safeway Expands Fuel Program

Vons prepares to open its fourth gas station in Las Vegas.

LAS VEGAS -- Vons, a subsidiary of Safeway Co., is expanding operations in Las Vegas with the launch of a combined supermarket, gas station and convenience store. The Select gas station, set to open June 26, is Vons' fourth to feature fuel operations.

"Shoppers and families who visit the Las Vegas Vons will now have the opportunity to buy gas and food as part of their shopping experience," Vons President Tom Keller said. "The opening of our newest fuel station is exciting and allows Vons another opportunity to showcase our competitive prices, excellent services and top-notch employees to the community of Las Vegas."

Vons said it would offer competitive gas prices and attempt to bring even more value through the use of the company's loyalty-card program. By using VonsClub, customers receive an additional discount per gallon on every gas purchase.

The 2,052-square-foot convenience center features six fuel pumps, which will allow up to 12 customers at one time to fuel their vehicle, and will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For the grand opening, Vons said it would give away Select travel mug giveaway to the first 300 customers and a free 20-ounce bottle of Coca-Cola with the purchase of eight gallons or more.
