Rutter's Rewards Customer Wins Free Gas for One Year

YORK, Pa. -- Long-time Rutter's Farm Stores customer, Tammy Hess, won free gas for a year just for registering her Rutter's Rewards card online. But she didn't realize by registering she had a chance to win, so when Rutter's sent her a congratulatory e-mail, she was caught off-guard, the company reported.

"I was like, what's the catch?" said Hess, 26, who works at a department store while studying accounting at YTI Career Institute, and drives 50 to 100 miles per week in her Ford Mustang.

Rutter's offered the prize to encourage customers to register their Rutter's Rewards cards, and 28 other registered customers won $100 Rutter's gift cards.

Rutter's Rewards customers earn cents off a gasoline for purchasing any of more than 1,600 everyday items bearing a special display icon. For example, a customer who buys a Rutter's breakfast sandwich and a cup of coffee every morning for a week on his way to work could earn a discount of 10 cents per gallon on his next fill-up, the company reported.

It's free to participate in Rutter's Rewards, and there's no limit to the dollar amount that customers can earn. Rewards are good for 60 days from the date on which they are earned.
